Exporting

Formats, quality, padding, margins, file names, dates and ZIP files.

Export shows how many photos will be saved. Everything is rendered in your browser from the original full-resolution file, straightened according to each box.

Format and quality

FormatResult
JPG (default)Smallest files; can carry a date taken
JPEGSame encoding as JPG, .jpeg extension
PNGLossless, keeps transparency, larger, no date

JPG/JPEG quality: Max (1.0), High (0.92, default), Medium (0.85), Standard (0.75). JPG has no transparency: corners that a rotation exposes and margins beyond the scan become white.

Size

  • Natural — every photo keeps its own shape.
  • Pad to aspect ratio — each photo is centred on a canvas of one ratio (3:4, 5:7, 4:5, 1:1 or your own, like 16:9, 5/7 or 5x7) without stretching or extra cropping. Pick the pad colour, or transparent with PNG. Very large outputs are scaled down to stay within about 16,000 px per side and 64 megapixels.

Capture margin

From −50% to +50% in 0.5% steps. It only affects the export, not the boxes on screen. Use +2–3% if detection was a little tight, or a negative value to trim inward.

File names

The default template is {file}_{crop} (for example vacation_5.jpg). Placeholders: {file} scan name, {crop} number on its scan, {n} number across the batch. No spaces; at least one placeholder. Pad numbers makes them 01 … 24. A custom name typed on a crop wins; duplicates become name (2).

Date taken

Written to every JPG as EXIF DateTimeOriginal (and DateTimeDigitized), so photo apps sort the scans by when they were taken. Enter YYYY, YYYY-MM or YYYY-MM-DD; a year alone is recorded as 1 January. A date set on a single crop wins. PNG files carry no date. A custom crop name is also written as the EXIF image description.

Original EXIF from the scan (camera, GPS) is not copied.

Where the files go

  • One photo downloads directly.
  • Two or more are packed into one ZIP named like AI Auto Cropper 2026-10-12 10.26.18.zip (with the scan name when you export a single scan).
  • Very large batches are split between scans into ZIPs of roughly 100 MB: … part 1.zip, … part 2.zip.
  • You can cancel while it runs. If some photos fail, a receipt lists them with the reason, Show jumps to the box, and Retry failed tries again.

Format, quality, size, ratio, pad colour, margin and naming are remembered in this browser when you export (not in the demo). The date is not remembered, because it belongs to one batch.
