Uploading scans

File types, batches, folders and what each status means.

Ways to add scans

  • Click the dashed upload area or Select files. Hold Ctrl (Windows) or ⌘ (Mac) to pick several files, or Shift to pick a range.
  • Drag files — or a whole folder — onto the upload area or onto the workspace.
  • Select a folder opens a folder picker.
  • Add scans in the toolbar adds more files to the current batch.

File types

FormatWhat happens
JPEG, PNG, WebPUsed as-is
HEIC / HEIFiPhone photos, converted to JPEG in your browser (can take a few seconds)
TIFFFirst page only, converted in your browser. 8- and 16-bit, compressed or not
PDFEvery page becomes its own scan, named name_page_1.jpg, name_page_2.jpg, …

Other formats (GIF, camera RAW) are marked Unsupported format and skipped; the rest of the batch continues. Files that need converting do not hold up the others: JPEG/PNG/WebP files appear and are detected right away.

Status of each scan

Preparing → Converting (PDFs show the page) → Detecting photos → N crops. You can open and edit scans that are ready while later ones are still processing; Export shows Finding photos 3 / 8 until the batch is done.

If a file fails, its card says why — Couldn't convert, Too large to convert, Couldn't read file or Detection failed — and the others carry on. Very large TIFFs can run the browser out of memory; close other heavy tabs or export an 8-bit TIFF from your scanning software.

Two files with the same name are kept apart: the second becomes DSC_0207 (2).jpg.

Privacy

Conversion, detection, cropping and export all run on your device. Nothing is uploaded. If you leave the page with crops you have not exported, the browser asks you to confirm, because the boxes would be lost.
